2022 DFC ACCOMPLISHMENTS
In six years, Waukesha County’s Drug Free Communities Coalition has reached thousands of parents, students, government and business leaders, community organizers, local establishments who serve alcohol and many others to prevent youth drug and alcohol use.
We have more than 120 members, representing 12 community sectors, who share our common goal. Each year, we are continuing to build and grow our coalition that will thrive far into the future. For a full report on our 2015 accomplishments click here.
Some highlights from 2023 include:
Drug Collection – 224 volunteers collected over 4,400 pounds from 2,368 households.
Nearly 35,000 pounds of unwanted and unused prescription drugs from homes in our community since 2009. Permanent drop boxes have been placed at 10 locations throughout Waukesha County to allow for 24/7 drop off of medication.
Hidden in Plain Sight – The display was of a teenager’s bedroom with educational posters and handouts for parents and educational providers listing red flags that may indicate drug or alcohol use. The unveiling event was in October as a kickoff to National Substance and Medicine Abuse Prevention month.
“What’s Your High” media campaign – This campaign, in partnership with the Waukesha School District, represents the Positive Community Norms philosophy. Students created 30 and 60-second public service announcements (PSAs) on alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and prescription medications. The PSAs ran at four Waukehsa County Marcus Majestic Cinemas from June to February, accompanied by posters and an educational kiosk. The PSAs reached over 1.25 million viewers.
